The Blob (1958) & (1988)

Very rarely has a movie been so perfectly summed up by its title.

They say that the simple ideas are usually the best, and it doesn't get much simpler than this:

There's a big blob, and it's coming for you!

And the idea is so great, that it worked several times over, making it a very rare instance of a remake being of almost equal quality as the original.

Still, even though the remake had heaps better effects and a truckload of faces you recognize from practically all other 80's horror flicks, the 1958 Blob has a sense of style as well as Steve McQueen.

I think it's an easy pick.

See both now, so you have something to compare the new remake apparently coming in 2011, with.

(stay away from the 1972 version though. Trust me when I say it is not worth hunting down.)
